The ADAC child seat test spring 2024: The winners

Together with other European automobile clubs and consumer organizations, the ADAC has carried out its biannual child seat test. We'll tell you how the test turned out and introduce you to the two winners: The Nuna Pipa Urbn infant car seat and the Cybex Cloud G i-Size baby seat with reclining function.

How did the ADAC test it?

24 child seats were put through their paces. These include baby seats, seats for small children and child seats for older children. The seats were examined for accident safety, operation, handling, ergonomics and pollutant content. The result was a cocktail of results with clear differences in quality. 15 of the seats tested received the test grade "good". These seats are definitely recommendable. Seven child seats received a "satisfactory" rating and two seats failed the ADAC child seat test completely. One losing model failed twice and can even be life-threatening when used. You will find out later which models you should avoid.

And the winner is...

Before we get to the losers, we would like to introduce you to the winners of this year's ADAC child seat test. Two baby seats emerged as winners in the test. The Nuna Pipa Urbn baby seat came out on top with a test result of 1.6 and the Cybex Cloud G i-Size baby seat with reclining function received an impressive score of 1.8 in the test. Both seats impressed in all test categories. A reason for us to introduce you to the baby seats in more detail.

The losers

Where there's a winner, there's a loser! Of the 24 child seats tested, two of the seats failed the test.

The Peg Perego Viagoo Twist with the Twist base failed the test twice. According to the ADAC child seat test, the child seat even poses a risk to life and was withdrawn from circulation by the manufacturer. The Peg Perego Viaggio Twist was literally torn apart in the crash test. In the frontal impact, the support leg broke off from the base, causing the seat to come loose and hurl itself forward. In addition, the cover material is contaminated with the flame retardant TCPP, which is suspected of causing cancer.

In addition to the Peg Perego Viaggo Twist, very high levels of the phthalate plasticizer DPHP were also found in the Silver Cross Discover i-Size. Naphthalene was also found in the cover of the extendable leg rest of the child seat, which is also believed to cause cancer. This child seat also failed the ADAC child seat test.

Conclusion

Despite the two outliers, most of the child seats tested can be recommended without hesitation. Our two test winners give parents with small children in particular a feeling of security. In addition to the high safety standards, the Nuna Pipa Urbn and the Cybex Cloud G i-Size also offer you a lot of flexibility to adapt to your everyday life.
